Girl Crashes Into Dad: Hours After Driving Test

'Choosy Learner' have discovered that a girl in the West Midlands has driven into the back of dad’s Jaguar while trying to get a little extra ‘driving experience’ within hours of passing her driving test – a skill she didn’t learn on her driving lessons.

Unfortunately for the 19-year-old, the joy of her driving test success quickly turned to extreme embarrassment at traffic lights on a roundabout just prior to joining the M6 Motorway, following a ‘generous’ stop by her father.

It is believed that the leading vehicle (driven by the girls father) stopped abruptly, immediately following the stop line - after realising that the lights had begun to change from green. He did this, believing that his daughter would certainly not make it through the lights.

At the same time however, the girl, who did not want to get left behind at a red light… began accelerating to get through!

Needless to say, there was a lot of last minute braking culminating in a ‘rear end shunt’ resulting in minor (but expensive) damage to both vehicles – thankfully there were no serious injuries – other than the pair’s pride.

What ‘Driving Lessons’ can we learn from this?

• -At least until you get used to driving alone, drive as you would with your driving instructor – would she have tried to skip the lights with her driving instructor? I don’t think she would.
• -Don’t drive too close to the car in front – if she had been keeping a reasonable distance from the car in front – there would simply have been more time to stop.
• -Use your mirrors. By checking your driving mirrors prior to any potential hazard (anything which may cause you to change speed or direction) it should give you the necessary information to decide whether or not to stop harshly.
• -Never assume while driving! They both seem to have assumed that the other would do something different – with rather embarrassing results.
• -Consider consulting the experts! – A driving school/driving instructor may be the best person to approach for some safe motorway driving experience!
